Oyster River
Trails, fishing & swimming!
About
Between Salmon Point and Saratoga Beach sits the Oyster River. If you follow the trail along the river you can walk all the way to Salmon Point. Somewhere in between these two places you'll pass a big open field that belongs to Shelter Point Distillery. You can often spot deer in the field and in between the raspberry vines.
The river is a popular spot for swimming in the summer - especially the deeper part on the other side of the old bridge is great for swimming. There is access to the river at Highway 19, 19a, 19b (the old bridge), and York Road (at the end of the road).
The Oyster River estuary, as well as the entire oceanfront of the community, are home to a large run of pink salmon that return every year. Another highlight of the Oyster River, and in particular the estuary and oceanfront, are the many birds that can be seen here. From Bald Eagles to Pacific Loons to Pileated Woodpeckers.
