The Campbell River
... and the Quinsam River.
About
The Campbell River is a popular river for (salmon) fishing in the summer months and the beginning of the fall. Each year, four species of Pacific salmon and two species of Searun Trout return to the Campbell and Quinsam Rivers to spawn. The Quinsam River joins the Campbell River. Chinook, Coho, Pink and Chum salmon can be found in this river. As well as Steelhead and Cutthroat Trout.
Visit the Quinsam Hatchery, located just off of Highway 28. You can observe juvenile salmon all year, or returning salmon from end-of-July to mid-November. Self-guided tours are open to visitors seven days a week from 8:00am to 3:30pm. There are many walking trails to enjoy branching off along the Quinsam and the Campbell River. Caution is to be exercised in the fall months as it is not unusual to encounter black bears on the trails.
